ISSUANCE OF A BIOMETRIC PASSPORT

Serbian passports are issued by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.
 
During a stay abroad, a passport serves as a proof of the identity of its holder and as a proof of citizenship of the Republic of Serbia. A passport can only be used by the person to whose name it has been issued.
 
When applying for a new passport, it is necessary to apply in person.
 
If submitting an application for a minor, the presence of a child is mandatory.
 
Required documents:
 
1.The previous Serbian biometric passport (unless you are applying for the first passport)
 
2.The proof of your legal status in Canada (Canadian citizenship/passport, Permanent Resident Card, student visa)
 
3. In case you are applying for Serbian biometric passport for the first time, please contact the Consulate at gkrstoronto@rogers.com so we can check if you are registered in the Vital Records of Serbia. Please do this before you schedule your appointment.
 
4. If you would like your new passport to be mailed to you, please provide addressed Xpresspost envelope (Regional for Ontario or National for other provinces in Canada). This envelope with a tracking number can be purchased at any Canada Post Office.
 
5. The consular fee in the amount  of 91 CAD must be paid by debit card.
 
 6. No photos are required   
 
 
Please note: When applying for a minor child, it is necessary for the child and both parents to be present at the Consulate. In case that one parent cannot be present please include written consent signed at the office of Canadian Notary Public. If the consent is written in language other than Serbian, please have it translated to Serbian by an authorized translator.
 
The Consulate is unable to accept requests for a biometric passport for the following persons:
 
 
• Children born in Canada until their birth has been duly registered in the vital records in Serbia.
 
 
• A person who concluded marriage in Canada and is applying  for a new passport with a changed family name unless the change of family name has been duly registered in the vital records in Serbia.
 
The new passport will be issued within two months. The passport can be issued in less than two months under urgent procedure if you provide a valid reason for the urgency (death in the family, medical treatment, business trip, etc.)
 
You can apply for a new passport no earlier than 7 months before the expiry date of the old passport. If you need a new passport and the old one expires in more than 7 months, consular fee is 91 CAD plus 7 CAD.
 
Deliverance of the new passport
 
Passport should be collected by the applicant. In case that the applicant cannot be present passport can be delivered to the person authorized by the applicant.  
 
If you would like to have your passport mailed to you, you can authorize the officer of the Consulate to mail you your new passport.
 
If the authorized person is other than the officer at the Consulate, he/she is required to bring the following:
 
• Authorization letter (must be written in Serbian language and notarized.
• Applicant’s old passport (for cancellation) if it has not expired already
• Valid passport of the authorized person

LOSS/THEFT OF THE PASSPORT

If your biometric passport of the Republic of Serbia is lost or stolen, it is necessary to immediately report it to the Canadian Police Department and obtain the Police Report regarding the loss. Afterward, the Consulate may initiate a procedure for declaring the missing passport invalid and you may apply in person for a new passport or travel document for your return back to Serbia.
 
I.    For the issuance of a new biometric passport, it is necessary to submit the following documents:
 
1.   Document for identification (valid identity card or driver’s license issued by the Republic of Serbia, a photocopy of the lost passport). A Canadian identification document will be accepted only if you don’t have any document issued by the Republic of Serbia.
 
2.    Police Report about the lost passport
 
3.   Completed and signed statement about the loss/theft of your passport formular IzjavaIzgubljenaBPI.doc
 
4.   The consular fee is 34 CAD and must be paid by debit card
 
II.   For issuance of an emergency travel document it is necessary to submit the following documents:
 
1. Document for identification (valid identity card or driver’s license issued by the Republic of Serbia, a photocopy of the lost passport). The Canadian identification document will be accepted only if you don’t have any document issued by the Republic of Serbia, but in that case, you should provide the proof of Serbian citizenship (Uverenje o drzavljanstvu) or sign the following form in person or at the office of Canadian Notary Public.
 
2. Police Report about the lost passport
 
3. Completed and signed statement about the loss/theft of your passport.
 
4. Two identical photographs size 3.5 x 4.5 cm that accurately reflects the image (taken from the front – not profile or semi-profile - without a hat or a scarf)
 
5. The form for the issuance of the travel document, legibly filled out, signed on both sides (the signature must be certified by a Notary Public if the request is sent by mail)
 
6. The consular fee in the amount of 65 CAD must be paid by debit card or by Certified Cheque or by Money Order payable to the Consulate General of Serbia.
 
7. If the request is being submitted by mail it is necessary to submit a self-addressed return envelope with prepaid postage affixed as well as your contact telephone number.
 
For minors under 18 years of age, in addition to the above documents, the presence of both parents is necessary or the written consent of a parent which is not present. If the request is being submitted by mail, the signatures of both parents must be certified by a Notary Public.
 
Before purchasing an airline ticket for the return to Serbia, we recommend that you check if you need a visa for the country of transit.
 


ISSUANCE OF THE EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT TO RETURN TO SERBIA

The emergency travel document is a document that serves only to return to the Republic of Serbia and is valid 60 days from the date of issuance. It will be issued to the person whose passport has expired, or which has reported the loss/theft of the passport or in other cases prescribed by the Law on travel documents of the R. of Serbia.

The request for the issuance of a travel document may be submitted in person or by mail.
Required documents:

• Identity document (issued by the Republic of Serbia: Identity Card (lična karta) or Driver’s license, expired biometric passport).
• The Canadian identification document will be accepted only if you don’t have any document issued by the Republic of Serbia, but in that case, you should provide the proof of Serbian citizenship (Uverenje o drzavljanstvu) or sign the following form in person or at the office of Canadian Notary Public.
• Two identical photographs size 3.5 x 4.5 cm that accurately reflects the image (taken from the front – not profile or semi-profile - without a hat or a scarf)
• The form for the issuance of the travel document, legibly filled out, signed on both sides (the signature must be certified by a Notary Public if the request is sent by mail)
• The consular fee in the amount of 65 CAD must be paid by debit card or Money Order issued to the Consulate General of Serbia.

The Consulate recommends to the holder of travel document of the Republic of Serbia to check before purchasing the airline ticket for the return to Serbia whether there is a need for a transit visa for the country of transit. That information should be checked here.
